چکیده
Grafting-to polymer coatings are typically easy to apply, but the thickness of such is limited a few nanometers, which may hamper applications. This paper presents grafting-to coating approach that yields brushes up an unprecedented 19 nm. To this aim, easy-to-apply poly(dopamine) (PDA) primer layer optimized. PDA easy-to-apply, highly complex and chemically not well understood layer. In study, deposited on silicon substrates using several deposition protocols (pH 4–7 in presence NaIO4, from Tris solution at pH 8.5). The modified surfaces characterized X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, spectroscopic ellipsometry, static water contact angle measurements, atomic force microscopy. Subsequently, block copolymers poly(glycidyl methacrylate)20-b-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)n attached onto films approach. results indicate conditions film strongly influence stability grafting efficiency copolymers. 7 with NaIO4 stable, yield most efficient grafting, grafted layers as thick Polymer rarely achieved procedures solution.

Y-Shaped Polymer Brushes: Nanoscale Switchable Surfaces
We report a first observation of nanoscale surface structures of segregated pinned micelles of grafted Y-shaped molecules and their reversible structural reorganization. We designed a novel type of Y-shaped molecules combining two highly incompatible polymer chains (arms) attached to a single focal point capable of chemical grafting to a functionalized silicon surface. We demonstrated that spat...
متن کاملPolymer brushes on periodically nanopatterned surfaces.
Structural properties of polymer brushes tethered on a periodically nanopatterned substrate are investigated by computer simulations. The substrate consists of an alternating succession of two different types of equal-width parallel stripes, and the polymers are end-tethered selectively on every second stripe. Three distinct morphologies of the nanopatterned brush have been identified, and thei...
متن کاملShear Swelling of Polymer Brushes Grafted onto Convex and Concave Surfaces
The shear response of polymer brushes is explored as a function of grafting surface curvature using the Alexander-deGennes ansatz, where the free ends of the chains are localized at the tip of the brush and all tethered chains in the brush are stretched equally. Brushes adsorbed onto the concave and convex surfaces of a cylinder are found to swell to a maximum of 35% of their nonsheared brush h...
متن کاملShear of polymer brushes
We have measured the normal, lateral and hydrodynamic forces that act between polymer-brush-bearing surfaces immersed in a good-solvent medium, both when stationary and when in motion with respect to each other. At low sliding velocities we find a very marked decrease in the frictional force between the surfaces, an effect interpreted in terms of a fluid interfacial layer resulting from the non...
متن کاملSrongly Charged Polymer Brushes
– Charged polymer brushes are layers of surface-tethered chains. Experimental systems are frequently strongly charged. Here we calculate phase diagrams for such brushes in terms of salt concentration ns, grafting density and polymer backbone charge density. Electrostatic stiffening and counterion condensation effects arise which are absent from weakly charged brushes. In various phases chains a...
